Hello everyone! My name is Jessica Canfield and this is my very first ePortfolio. As a self-proclaimed “technology geek”, I was very excited to start this project!
So a little bit about me….Currently I survive mostly on Chipotle and Starbucks. I wear (and enjoy wearing) multiple hats. I am a mother, wife, teacher, helper, problem solver, idea developer and life-long learner. By day I have worked as a Faculty Developer, by night (and weekends!) I am an Adjunct Instructor in the Arts and Sciences. I also have an amazing (and very supportive) family (pictured below)!
I’m passionate about education. I feel the most comfortable in an academic setting, either teaching or learning. My interest in teaching was a natural progression for me. I have a love of learning that has translated into being a “career student”, and I have a desire to share that love with others.
In the two most recent positions I have held with ERAU-Worldwide, I have been able to promote learning and generate excitement of the topics that I feel so passionate about. I think instructing students in Sociology/Psychology and providing faculty development are very similar. Both require the “student” to delve deep within the psyche and reflect on their own experiences. In addition, teaching at an Aeronautical University, often students are taking my courses because it is mandatory for them to complete an upper level elective. I feel the same is often true for the faculty in the Faculty Development courses. Bringing in my enthusiasm for teaching and my excitement for technology allows me to share my passion and knowledge regarding these topics, and hopefully get my students to buy into them as well! There is nothing better than being able to spark a student's interest and get them excited about something they did not think they needed to know! I guess you could say that I am always up for a challenge.
In addition, I thrive in high pressure situations and I am always looking for opportunities to learn something new.
I strongly believe that ePortfolios are an excellent opportunity to facilitate identity formation. In this ePortfolio I hope you will find some useful information about me! Thanks for visiting. :)
